UMC Energy PLC30 October 2006 UMC ENERGY PLC 30 October 2006 APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER The Board of UMC Energy plc (the "Company" or "UMC Energy") (AIM:UEP), theuranium exploration and production company with assets in Madagascar, is pleasedto announce the appointment of Mike Smith as its Chief Executive Officer, withimmediate effect. Mike will underpin the Company's planned development of itsURAMAD uranium exploration opportunity in Madagascar. Mike Smith has 40 years' experience in the mining sector. He has held seniorpositions with Anglo American, including Divisional Director Anglo AmericanPlatinum, Vice President Technical Services with Anglo American Gold and MineManager of Western Deep Levels Mine and of Vaal Reefs Gold Mine. He holds a BSc in Mining Engineering and a Masters degree in BusinessLeadership. Mr Cleary, the Chairman of the board, commented: "We are very pleased that an executive of Mr Smith's standing has joined theboard as Chief Executive Officer at this important stage of the Company'sdevelopment.
