AMEC launches ALPHASIMPLEX(R) LNG Technology

1st Nov 2006 17:18

AMEC, the international project management and services company, announces the first application of a patented Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) processing technology for BTU Management by NGL extraction,ALPHASIMPLEX(R). First installation will be on a Texas-based LNGre-gas facility. £ According to Simon Naylor, president of AMEC's oil and gasbusiness in Houston, AMEC Paragon, "LNG will play an increasinglycritical role in meeting the future demand for natural gas, particularly in the United States, Europe and the Far East. TheALPHASIMPLEX(R) technology can significantly improve the viability ofLNG receiving and re-gasification facilities bringing benefits to theowners, distributors and ultimately energy consumers in the US." £ The patented ALPHASIMPLEX(R) process, which can be incorporatedinto any LNG receiving terminal, employs a unique configuration ofconventional cryogenic gas processing equipment to recover ethane andheavier hydrocarbons (NGL products) from LNG. Compared to the leadingcompetitor process, 90 percent to 95 percent of compression power iseliminated, thereby reducing capital cost of the project, improvingfacility reliability and up time, and, minimizing operating costs. £ ALPHASIMPLEX(R) technology is currently being considered for Gulfof Mexico offshore LNG receiving facilities that are in conceptualdevelopment. Application of the technology reduces the size andcomplexity of the offshore facilities, thereby significantly adding tothe viability of offshore LNG storage solutions. £ Through such value-added emerging technologies, AMEC continues tocreate benchmarks in its advancement of Midstream capabilities. TheALPHASIMPLEX(R) patent is held jointly by AMEC Paragon and PiTechnology Associates, Inc. £ Notes to Editors: £ 1.
