AGM Statement
Uranium Resources plc, the AIM listed uranium exploration and development company, held its AGM on Friday 30th January 2009 and all resolutions were duly passed.
At the meeting, Managing Director Alex Gostevskikh made the following statement:
"As emphasised in our results, we have a solid portfolio, experienced management team, and a sound cash position, which I believe gives us a strong capability to generate shareholder value.
"Our Joint Venture partners Western Metals Ltd ("WMT") continue to advance our three Tanzanian uranium projects, Mtonya, Ruvuma and Ruhuhu, in order to realise their economic potential. In addition, we recently established a new working relationship with mining major Rio Tinto, having signed an agreement allowing them to explore the coal potential of our licence areas in southern Tanzania. We believe this agreement adds value and underpins the strength of our exploration portfolio, as we gain exposure to any economic coal deposits discovered in the region, whilst not exposing ourselves to high levels of capital expenditure.
"Furthermore, in line with our new strategy, we are looking to identify a number of precious metal targets with short development cycle requirements to expand our asset base and core offering. A number of jurisdictions and opportunities are currently under review.
"With a healthy cash position, an aggressive 2009 exploration and development programme in place, a recently strengthened management team and a pipeline of new opportunities, we look forward to the future with confidence and fulfilling our growth strategy."
