UK Coal PLC23 April 2007 23 April 2007 UK COAL PLC ("UK COAL") Annual General Meeting Statement At its Annual General Meeting, held at 1.00pm today, the Chairman of UK COAL,David Jones, made the following comments on first quarter trading: "Overall performance has been in line with expectations, excluding the effectsof the production stoppage at Daw Mill, which has already been reported on. DawMill is now also performing normally following an extensive safety review. Our surface mining business continues to make rapid progress, and three newplanning permissions have been received for sites containing some 1.4 milliontonnes of coal. UK COAL's Property Division, Harworth Estates, continues to progress well inadding value through the planning process and developing the Group's propertyportfolio. The detailed review of our property estate continues, and we are likely to beadding additional projects onto the list of 60 priority sites identified lastNovember. This will then form our medium to long-term development portfolio,providing a consistent pipeline of good quality sites moving through theplanning consent and development phases. Harworth Power, UK COAL's power generation subsidiary has installed 15 MW of newgeneration capacity and has progressed several planning applications in respectof wind turbines in the quarter. Overall the Group remains well placed to deliver further value for shareholdersand will continue to focus on realising the significant potential within itsproperty portfolio, developing its surface mining business, reducing the riskprofile of its deep mining operations and capitalising on opportunities in powergeneration."
