Acta S.p.A.
("Acta" or "the Company")
Partnership Update and Project Shipment
Acta S.p.A. (AIM: ACTA), the clean energy products company, is pleased to note that Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced approved safety and reliability standards for fuel cell scooters and motorcycles, meaning they are now ready for mass production.
Acta's Taiwanese light electric vehicle partner, Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technologies ("APFCT"), has been working closely with the Taiwanese Government to support the definition of these standards, which have been released following 120,000 kilometres of road tests by the Taiwanese Government using 30 APFCT fuel cell scooters.
Acta has been working with APFCT on a project for large scale implementation of a fuel cell scooter and refuelling kiosk system using Acta's electrolyser, and a decision on this further installation is expected within the next three months.
Acta is encouraged by the close relationship that APFCT has established with the Taiwanese Government and believes that release of road standards for fuel cell motorcycles and scooters will help to accelerate the introduction and adoption of these vehicles together with the refuelling kiosk within tourist destinations and other environmentally sensitive locations. APFCT is currently undertaking a beta test funded by the Taiwanese Government deploying 80 fuel cell scooters and refuelling points in tourist destinations in southern Taiwan, to evaluate scooter rental uptake and maintenance requirements in real deployment and usage.
In addition Acta is pleased to announce that it has shipped a 500 L / hour, renewable-powered electrolyser to its partner, H2 Technologies Inc in Hawaii, for inclusion in H2 Technologies'demonstration of a clean transport solution for the Hawaiian islands. This demonstration, to take place from the 13 -15th August, will show a complete system using photovoltaic panels as the renewable energy source, Acta's electrolyser generating clean hydrogen from this source, and APFCT's fuel cell scooters using it to refuel in a refuelling station. Demonstrations of the integrated clean transport system will be made to the public, as well as to Government representatives and investors.
This demonstration has particular significance due to Hawaii's role as a natural hub for US clean technologies. The island has abundant renewable energy resources, very high energy and transportation costs (four times the US average), and the highest petroleum dependency of any US state. The Hawaiian state Government is therefore a keen promoter of renewable and clean technology solutions, including the use of hydrogen for transportation and energy storage. The partners believe that the demonstration of the technology in such a key environment will assist the adoption of the fuel cell scooters and refuelling system in Hawaii and the US.

About Acta S.p.A.
Acta S.p.A. is a developer and manufacturer of a range of clean energy products. Its product line includes market-leading compact hydrogen generators (electrolysers) which produce pure, dry and compressed hydrogen in a way that is easy-to-use and completely safe, and the Company is committed to integrating its award-winning electrolysers with renewable energy sources.
Acta's cost-competitive electrolysers are based on its proprietary, inexpensive environmental catalyst and hydrogen conversion technologies. These products help overcome the barriers to the adoption of fuel cells, most notably the lack of a local hydrogen infrastructure. They are also applicable in non-fuel cell hydrogen and oxygen applications, including oxy-hydrogen gas welding systems, where the Company is generating significant commercial interest.
Acta's low-cost hydrogen generators represent a unique breakthrough in electrolyser technology. They can operate using mains power or intermittent renewable energy, and produce clean, dry hydrogen already at pressure for use in fuel cell and other applications. This unique combination of features avoids the system complexity and energy cost of further cleaning, drying and compression of the hydrogen, resulting in a simple, compact, low-cost and highly efficient system that is ideally suited for energy conversion and storage applications. In such applications, which include battery replacement and renewable energy storage, low cost and high efficiency are critical to commercial viability, while hydrogen compression is essential for the energy density of the system. No other water electrolyser currently on the market offers this combination of benefits.
Acta is focusing on delivering its products to markets with high volume demand for high-value environmental solutions (transport, back-up power, energy and leisure). It is accelerating the commercialisation of its products via partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors, and agents in these sectors, and intends to drive down production costs at high volume via contract manufacturing.
Acta S.p.A. is based near Pisa, Italy, and was admitted to trading on AIM in October 2005.

About H2 Technologies Inc
H2 Technologies has developed a unique patent-pending process that combines sonochemistry (the use of ultrasound to accelerate chemical reactions) and electrolysis to produce hydrogen from water. The company focuses exclusively on using clean, renewable energy sources and on technology that is highly efficient, scalable and manufactured of readily-available materials. To demonstrate the use of hydrogen as a transportation fuel the H2 Technologies team has previously converted a moped to run on compressed hydrogen gas, which is now on display at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii.
