AMEC PLC08 July 2005 AMEC PLC 8 July 2005 AMEC expands environmental services business with acquisition of USenvironmental consulting company AMEC plc, the international project management and services company, announcesthe acquisition of the business and selected assets of Shapiro & Associates,Inc., the US environmental consulting company. The value of the net assets beingacquired is US$30,000 (£17,500). The transaction, which gives AMEC increased scale in the northwestern US,furthers AMEC's strategy of expanding its environmental services businessthrough in-fill acquisitions. It also increases AMEC's capabilities inenvironmental planning, impact assessment and biological services. Shapiro & Associates specialises in environmental planning and regulatorycompliance for government and industrial clients operating out of Seattle,Washington and Boise, Idaho. The environmental services business forms part of the Engineering and TechnicalServices business segment, AMEC's largest area of activity, which, in 2004, hadtotal turnover of £2.3 billion and generated 43% of total operating profit.
