ARM Holdings PLC23 June 2006 ARM STRENGTHENS ITS 3D GRAPHICS IP PORTFOLIO THROUGH FALANX ACQUISITION CAMBRIDGE, UK - June 23, 2006 - ARM ((LSE:ARM); (Nasdaq:ARMHY)), today announcedit has acquired Falanx Microsystems AS, an innovative graphics IP company. Theprivately-owned company is headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, and has netassets of NOK 2 million. "The graphics market for mobile, automotive and home applications, isincreasingly important to ARM due to the rapidly growing usage of electronicdevices with graphics capabilities; the estimated total available market forembedded 3D hardware is set to grow from 135m units in 2006 to more than 435munits in 2010*," said Mike Inglis, EVP, Marketing and Business Development, ARM."The acquisition of Falanx will enable us to build upon our existing graphicsactivity and to drive the adoption of feature-rich, multimedia embeddedsolutions with a complementary ecosystem for developers." Falanx develops graphics accelerator IP and software for semiconductorsystem-on-chip (SoC) vendors that deliver high-quality multimedia images withoutcompromising performance, power consumption or system cost. The acquisition fitsthe ARM strategy of enabling users to create SoCs seamlessly in their designprocess. The Mali(TM)Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) is a combination of hardwareand software that enables industry-leading 3D graphics and video on mobilephones, portable media players, set-top boxes, handheld gaming devices andinfotainment systems (including automotive).
