Aberdeen Asset Management Inc ("AAM Inc"), the US subsidiary ofAberdeen Asset Management PLC ("Aberdeen"), announces the launch ofthe Aberdeen Emerging Markets Fund (ABEMX) (The "Fund"). The Fund isintended for institutional investors with a minimum investment of $1million. A registration statement relating to these securities hasbeen filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and iseffective as of April 16th. The fund will be available for publicinvesting on May 3rd. £ The Fund will be managed by Aberdeen's highly regarded GlobalEmerging Markets Team, headed by Devan Kaloo. It will aim to providelong-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in stocks ofemerging market country issuers. Aberdeen believes its trademarkresearch-based stock picking style will enable it to extractconsiderable long term value from what is still a comparatively underresearched asset class. For Aberdeen, rising domestic consumption is akey emerging markets theme. Aberdeen believes that growing, youthfulpopulations with burgeoning workforces should boost earnings andspending power in emerging economies, and thus in turn will drivedomestic growth. £ "By capitalizing on the poor level of research on emerging marketcompanies, Aberdeen aims to create considerable long term value forits clients through the new Aberdeen Emerging Markets Fund," saidKaloo. "For this year we expect markets to rise again, but not asstrongly as they did in 2006, because economic growth and corporateprofit growth are likely to be somewhat slower. Meanwhile, thelong-term story in emerging markets is about rising domesticconsumption, given these economies' growing, youthful populations." £ "The launch of the Fund is a natural progression for Aberdeen, having experienced strong interest in its emerging market equitycapabilities from US institutional investors over the past few years,"said Chris Farrell, Head of Distribution - US Mutual Funds at AAM Inc."The Aberdeen Emerging Markets Fund will provide a strong platform forus to expand our mutual fund range going forward." £ About Aberdeen £ Aberdeen Asset Management Inc is the US subsidiary of AberdeenAsset Management PLC which manages investments for individuals andinstitutional investors.
