Xeros Technology Helps Reduce Water Use In Leather Processing Sector

16th May 2016 07:47

LONDON (Alliance News) - Xeros Technology Group PLC Monday said it has completed a full-scale trial of the use of its patented polymer bead systems within the leather processing industry which has delivered positive results.

Xeros conducted the trial within a tannery as part of a joint development agreement with LANXESS Deutschland GmbH which aims to progress the London-listed company's patented technology within the leather processing market.

The "leading independent" tannery conducted the trial and the results showed "material reductions" in water, chemistry and effluent when Xeros' technology was used in the retanning and dyeing phase of leather processing.

"When Xeros' technology was applied to this phase of the process, the water used and the effluent generated were reduced by over 50%. The leather produced was judged to be of excellent quality in terms of look, feel, and handle," said the company.

Leather processing involves four stages, starting with beamhouse, which refers to curing the leather, before moving onto tanning, re-tanning and dyeing and then finishing.

"The group intends to continue further trials to determine the maximum potential of its technology in this field whilst simultaneously progressing its commercialisation plan," Xeros added.

Xeros shares were down 1.2% to 200.40 pence per share on Monday morning.
