(Alliance News) - Wm Morrisons Supermarkets PLC said Wednesday it has promoted Trading Director Michael Gleeson to chief financial officer, while Chief Finance & Commercial Officer Trevor Strain steps up to chief operating officer.
Gleeson will be appointed to the role with effect on February 3, 2020. Until then, he will be in the role of finance director, reporting to Strain.
Gleeson has been in his role for two years since 2017, and has been part of the FTSE 100 supermarket chain for five years since 2014.
Strain, meanwhile, will be responsible for Morrisons's commercial, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and operations development affairs in his new role, and will report to Chief Executive David Potts.
Strain was first appointed as chief finance & commercial officer in 2018, and prior to that was merely chief financial officer for five years from 2013 to 2018.
"Trevor is a proven and outstanding business leader who has played a pivotal role in the ongoing Morrisons turnaround. Michael has extensive financial, commercial and retail experience, together with a first-class track record, and his appointment will further strengthen the executive team. Together, and as part of the wider Morrisons team, we will continue to build a broader, stronger Morrisons," Potts said.
Shares in Wm Morrisons Supermarkets - which is headquartered in Bradford - were marginally lower at 195.50 pence early Wednesday in London.
