Wizz Air Passenger Numbers, Load Factor Improve

14th Apr 2015 11:24

LONDON (Alliance News) - Wizz Air Holdings PLC Tuesday said its passenger numbers rose sharply in the year to the end of March as it added new routes and airports to its network and opened two new bases.

The Central and Eastern Europe-focused budget carrier, which floated in London last month, said its passenger numbers for the year rose to 16.5 million, from 13.9 million a year earlier. Its capacity rose to 19 million, from 16.3 million, as it added 27 new routes and five airports to its network, along with new bases in Slovakia and Poland.

The company's load factor for the year improved by one percentage point to 86.7%, from 85.7% a year earlier.

"The last 12 months have been an excellent period for Wizz Air. We saw further capacity growth with the addition of more countries and bases to our network. We carried 2.5 million more passengers than in the same period last year," said József Váradi, Wizz Air's chief executive.

"We are set for further growth on the back of our continuing fleet and network expansion in 2015 to bring more low fares to more travelers in Central and Eastern Europe," Váradi added.

Wizz Air shares were down 0.1% to 1,440.00 pence Tuesday.
