Wizz Air Appoints Nike's Joel Goldberg To Chief Digital Officer Role

LONDON (Alliance News) - Wizz Air Holdings PLC said Friday that it appointed Joel Goldberg to the newly-created role of chief digital officer.

Goldberg, who is currently senior technology director for Nike Inc's European division, will take on his new role with the low-cost airline from October 1.

He will be responsible for the company's e-commerce, data analytics and automation, IT innovation and IT Infrastructure and services functions, Wizz Air said.

The company added that its commitment to the British market continues, as it will increase the number of airplanes at its London-Luton airport operations to nine by the end of 2018.

Owain Jones, currently chief corporate officer, will become managing director of Wizz Air UK from September, while, Head of Legal Marion Geoffroy will be promoted chief corporate officer.

"From the very start, digital technology has been a foundation of Wizz's success, with 96% of our sales coming through wizzair.com, already one of the world's top ten most-visited airline websites," Chief Executive Officer Jozsef Varadi said.

He added: "Joel Goldberg's appointment as chief digital officer will ensure that Wizz Air's digital development not only keeps up with, but also anticipates the future needs of our customers as well as improving efficiency across the business as we continue our mission to become the undisputed cost-leader among European airlines."

Shares in the budget airline were trading down 0.3% at 3,182.00 pence each Friday afternoon.
