Wizz Air amends Airbus delivery pact, taking fewer longer-haul jets

7th Nov 2025 09:56

(Alliance News) - Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Friday said it has amended a delivery agreement with Airbus SE, taking fewer of the longer-haul A321XLRs jets from the aircraft maker.

Budget carrier Wizz said the new schedule sees 88 deliveries originally planned to arrive by the end of its financial year to March 2030, will be deferred to be delivered by the year ending in 2033.

In addition, Budapest-based Wizz said it has altered the "fleet mix".

It has trimmed its commitment for A321XLRs to 11 from 47. The 11 includes five units already delivered by Airbus. The remaining 36 A321XLRs have been converted to a commitment for 36 A321neos.

"These amendments support the airline's target of achieving a 10-12% seat capacity growth rate through 2030. The fleet is scheduled to be all-neo by calendar 2029, reinforcing Wizz Air's position as one of the world's most emissions-efficient airlines and delivering significant fuel-burn advantages compared to previous generation aircraft," Wizz Air said.

The A321XLRs have a longer range than the A321neos, so are they used for longer-haul travel.

Wizz Air shares fell 1.1% to 987.50 pence each in London on Friday morning. Airbus shares fell 0.7% to EUR207.10 each in Paris.
