Wincanton Wins New Contract With BAE Systems For UK Naval Work

19th Jan 2015 07:42

LONDON (Alliance News) - Supply chain services firm Wincanton PLC said Monday it has won a new contract with BAE Systems PLC to provide it with logistics and warehousing services to support its UK shipbuilding operations.

No financial details of the contract were disclosed. Wincanton said that the long-term agreement will see it operating a central warehousing facility, inbound scheduling and collections, and provision of modular re-usable crates.

BAE Systems said it has an existing relationship with Wincanton through the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers programme.

"This marks a significant step in our drive to transform our business, creating a world class UK naval engineering capability. Wincanton will help us to improve quality and efficiency in the delivery of complex warships, making our business more competitive in the long-term," said Charlie Blakemore, transformation director of the Naval Ships business at BAE Systems.

"While this announcement underlines our position as the UK's leading logistics partner to the defence sector, more important is the wider picture, which is a leaner, more efficient logistics operation for BAE Systems, enhancing its world-class shipbuilding capabilities," Wincanton Chief Executive Eric Born said.
