(Alliance News) - Wincanton PLC on Wednesday announced a two-year extension with Asda Stores Ltd for the management of its transport and warehousing operations.

The Wiltshire, England-based supply chain solutions provider has been in partnership with the grocer since 2005. Asda is part of US-based supermarket chain Walmart Inc.

The contract employs 1,385 Wincanton staff and 53 vehicles.

Wincanton CEO James Wroath said: "As we face new challenges ahead, I'm certain Wincanton will add expertise and value to this long-standing partnership."

Senior Director of Central Logistics at Asda Chris Hall said: "When collaboration in the supply-chain is more important than ever, we look forward to continuing to find new and innovative ways to add value for both organisations."

Wincanton shares were up 0.3% at 181.50 pence on Wednesday morning in London.
