Whitbread Sales Up As Premier Inn And Costa Continue To Perform

16th Jun 2015 06:15

LONDON (Alliance News) - Whitbread PLC Tuesday reported a rise in total revenue in the first quarter of its financial year as it continued to grow sales at both its Premier Inn and Costa Coffee chains.

The hotel and coffee shop chain operator reported a 12.5% rise in total sales in the 13 weeks to May 28, with Premier Inn revenue up 14.3% and Costa Coffee up 17.2%. On a like-for-like basis, sales grew 6.3% and 5.0%, respectively.

Premier Inn's results were helped by an 8.2% increase in rooms available and 6.1% growth in revenue per available room, Whitbread said, while Costa's results were driven by winning more customers and a 4.4% like-for-like transaction growth.

"Whitbread has begun the new financial year well, in line with expectations, with total sales growth for the first quarter of 12.5% and good like-for-like sales growth of 4.3%, driven by continued momentum in Premier Inn and Costa," Chief Executive Andy Harrison said in a statement.

Harrison will be replaced by Alison Brittain as chief executive on December 7. She will start as chief executive designate on September 28.
