WH Smith says subsidiary Funky Pigeon subject to cyber attack

19th Apr 2022 08:57

(Alliance News) - WH Smith PLC on Tuesday said its subsidiary Funky Pigeon was subject to a cyber attack last Thursday.

The Swindon, England-headquartered convenience retailer added it has temporarily suspended orders from Funky Pigeon's website as it is investigating the incident with external IT specialists.

Funky Pigeon is an online greetings card and gift retailer.

No customer payment data such as bank account or credit details had been placed at risk, the firm assured. That data is processed and securely encrypted via accredited third-parties, WH Smith explained.

It is, however, assessing the extent to which any personal data - such as names, addresses and email addresses - has been accessed.

The company said the cyber attack will not have a material impact on group performance. It confirmed that half-year results are "comfortably in line" with company compiled consensus.

WH Smith shares were 0.6% lower at 1,507.50 pence each in London on Tuesday morning.
