Westminster Says No Adverse Impact On Passenger Traffic From Ebola

6th Aug 2014 11:59

LONDON (Alliance News) - Westminster Group PLC Wednesday said it has not seen any adverse impact on passenger traffic related to the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa, though it warned it may face some short-term impact from British Airways' decision to temporarily suspend flights to the region.

The fire protection and safety products firm, which has an aviation security services unit that provides security at an airport in an unnamed country hit by the Ebola outbreak, said it saw a 30% rise in passenger traffic numbers in the first five days of August against the same period last year, and said it has seen an 8.9% rise in passenger traffic numbers in the year to date.

It warned it is likely to see a short-term impact from the decision by British Airways to suspend flights to regions impacted by the outbreak until the end of August, but said this should be offset by other carriers increasing flights in order to meet demand.

British Airways said on Tuesday that it has suspended flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone until the end of August amid concerns over the Ebola outbreak.

The firm also said the placing it announced earlier this week, in which it will seek to raise GBP1.25 million, has mitigated the impact of any loss in revenues or any potential disruption to its cash flows should the situation in West Africa deteriorate.

Westminster shares were down 5.4% to 39.75 pence on Wednesday.
