LONDON (Alliance News) - Westminster Group PLC Wednesday said its technology division has secured a USD960,000 contract to help secure an "iconic" bridge in the US, adding separately that its 200 passenger ferry has arrived in Sierra Leone in west Africa.
Westminster will provide advanced detection technology services as part of a larger pilot project to protect a section of the unnamed bridge against terrorist or criminal attack. Westminster said if the initial phase of the project proves successful, the programme will be extended to cover the entire bridge and "potentially other key structures", it said.
Westminster will commence work and begin deploying resources immediately on this initial project, which is due to be completed this financial year.
"The fact that Westminster was approached to design and provide the specialist solution, bears testament to the reputation and reach of our business," said Chief Executive Peter Fowler.
In addition, the company's Sierra Queen ferry vessel has arrived in Sierra Leone. Westminster said it will provide a further update on the ferry in due course.
Westminster shares rose by 2.9% to 25.20 pence per share on Wednesday morning.
