LONDON (Alliance News) - Westminster Group PLC Monday warned that recent flight suspensions in West Africa due to the Ebola outbreak will hit its August passenger numbers, although it reiterated that it has not seen any "material impact" on its passenger numbers in the year to date as a result of the ongoing outbreak.
The security and defence company said that Kenya Airways and Gambia Bird have recently announced they are suspending flights to the region for the remainder of August, and British Airways has previously announced a similar suspension. It noted that other major airlines including Air France, Brussels Airlines and Air Marco continue to operate.
Local aviation bodies expect the suspended flights to resume in coming weeks, and expect additional flights from both existing and new carriers to start in the near term, Westminster said.
The company provides security at an airport in an unnamed country hit by the Ebola outbreak, and said it continues to provide full services at the airport and assisting the authorities to implement measures to keep it safe and secure.
To assist the authorities at the airport, it has deployed its advanced fever detection screening equipment, which identifies people who may be suffering from Ebola, common influenza, SARS and other flu variants.
Shares in Westminster were trading down 3.5% at 49.20 pence Monday afternoon.
