LONDON (Alliance News) - Big Data software company WANdisco PLC said Monday it has joined the Hadoop Open Data Platform, an association formed to promote Hadoop and other 'big data' technologies.
Hadoop is a free programming framework based on the Java programming language which supports the processing of large data sets. It is part of the Apache project, sponsored by the Apache Software foundation.
Other members of the platform include IBM, General Electric and Hortonworks. WANdisco will market its Big Data product WANdisco Fusion, which provides data access availability across Hadoop and Hadoop-compatible storage providers.
"Our invitation into the Open Data Platform initiative with some of the largest players in the industry is clear recognition of the value our technology brings to mission-critical Big Data deployments, as well as our commitment to give customers choice and flexibility, instead of locking them into proprietary platforms," said Chief Executive David Richards in a statement.
Shares in WANdisco are trading down 1.4% at 360.00 pence Monday morning.
