LONDON (Alliance News) - WANdisco PLC said Wednesday that it had filed a patent application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for an active-active replication applied to the Hadoop Distributed File System over a wide-area-network.
An active-active replication refers to creating and managing a duplicate version of an existing database, in this case the Apache Hadoop open-source framework, on a network of independent processing nodes. In this system, each node has access to a common database, and thus can all work on a common application. This sort of system is commonly used to provide seamless service, as if one node fails a user can be switched to another node without a service outage.
WANdisco is a software provider for data storage, and distributed software development. Its shares were quoted early Wednesday at 1,080.00 pence, up 15.00p or 1.4%.
