Volex Says Data Unit Order Book Rising On China 4G Rollout

7th May 2014 12:03

LONDON (Alliance News) - Power and data cabling company Volex PLC Wednesday said it had experienced good growth in the order book of its higher-margin data unit, thanks to the start of the rollout of 4G mobile phone technology in China.

China Mobile is rapidly expanding its superfast 4G mobile network, and has recently announced its intention to provide 4G availability for the majority of the country within the next few years, potentially involving the installation of up to one million mobile phone base station masts. That benefiting telecom equipment manufacturers like Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson.

Volex, which supplies data cabling systems for the mobile phone base station masts, each of which requires up to 70 cables, is a customer of four of those five equipment providers.

"These new developments in China bode well for our plans to deliver significant and sustainable growth over the next few years in the telecoms sector," Volex Chief Executive Christoph Eisenhardt said in a statement.

Volex shares were up 2.6% at 98.50 pence Wednesday.
