(Alliance News) - Vodafone Group PLC said Monday it has hired Vinod Kumar as chief executive officer of Vodafone Business, starting from September 2.
Kumar will report directly to group CEO Nick Read. The previous head of the unit, Brian Humphries, stepped down in March.
Kumar will succeed current Vodafone Group CEO Rest of World Vivek Badrinath, who has been acting Vodafone Business CEO since March.
The unit is the FTSE 100-listed's cloud and digital services business, which accounted for 30% of the group's EUR43.7 billion revenue in financial 2019, ended March 31.
Kumar was managing director and CEO of Tata Communications Ltd from 2011, after joining the Indian telecommunications firms as chief operating officer in 2004. He has been a member of the Tata Communications board since 2007.
Vodafone said he has a long career in the telecommunications industry, with roles at Asia Netcom, WorldCom, Global One and Sprint International.
Read said: "Vinod is a very experienced business leader with a breadth of experience from across the globe. He is a great addition to Vodafone and the Executive Committee."
Shares in Vodafone were down 0.8% in London on Monday morning at 133.60 pence each.
