Victoria Oil & Gas Brings More Electricity Units Online In Cameroon

12th Jun 2014 11:58

LONDON (Alliance News) - Victoria Oil & Gas PLC Thursday said its subsidiary Gaz du Cameroun SA has brought on line a further three gas-fired electricity generation units in Douala, Cameroon.

The oil and gas company said it brought the new connections online at the Guinness Brewery in Douala, following full transfer of the site's energy needs from grid power supply to its gas fired units.

The news comes after the company announced earlier in June that it had connected another three units at dairy, plastic mouldings and flour mill sites in Douala following production tie-in periods.

As a result, Victoria Oil & Gas said it now has reached the first stage of its expansion plan to become a gas-fired electricity unit supplier and said its total installed power generating capacity for the six units is nine megawatts with an estimated average gas consumption of 0.75 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

The company also noted that a thermal supply pipeline to the new Dangote Cement PLC cement works has now also been completed. Dangote is investing USD115 million in a 1.0 million metric tonnes per year facility in Douala which is expected for completion in 2014, and Gaz du Cameroun is working with Dangote to schedule its thermal connection.

Furthermore, Gaz du Cameroun has completed a pipeline to Socapursel, a food manufacturing business, and is now awaiting burner connection by the customer's commissioning engineers as part of another deal.

Victoria Oil shares were up 6.4% to 1.20 pence on Thursday.
