(Alliance News) - Vertu Motors PLC said its subsidiary Macklin Motors has been awarded a Toyota Motor Corp franchise in the west of Scotland, starting from April 1.
Shares were up 3.8% at 65.60 pence each on Wednesday morning in London.
The Gateshead, England-based car dealership Vertu Motors said it plans to open four Toyota dealerships, with the first in south Glasgow.
The company noted that this is the first time that its subsidiary Macklin has represented Toyota.
Vertu Motors already operates three Toyota outlets in the East Midlands, it said.
The new Toyota operations will offer the full range of new and used Toyota vehicles including the new Yaris Cross, Aygo X, the Land Cruiser, as well as an extensive range of Toyota hybrid and electric vehicles.
Recruitment for the new operations has started now, Vertu Motors said.
"The addition of these dealerships augments the group's representation in Scotland under the Macklin Motors brand and expands our operational footprint there. It also demonstrates our confidence in both the future of the automotive retail sector and in Scotland's economy," Vertu Motors Chief Executive Robert Forrester said.
General manager of Network Development for Toyota GB Paul Marshall added: "'We are delighted to be expanding our operations with Vertu Motors through their Macklin Motors operation in this key geographic region, and are looking forward to developing several new exciting facilities for our customers."
