(Alliance News) - Versarien PLC on Wednesday said it has signed a collaboration agreement with Refractory Solutions Insertec SLU, a manufacturer of industrial furnaces and refractory products.
Under the deal, the materials engineering company said it will be working to incorporate its Hexotene into some of Insertec's refractory materials with a view to enhancing their performance in molten metal applications.
Hexotene is a few layer hexagonal boron nitride nanoplatelet powder with large lateral dimensions. Also known as "white graphene", hexagonal boron nitride has a layered structure similar to graphite.
Versarien said some of the key properties of Hexotene - that the company believes could be particularly beneficial when added to Insertec's high temperature refractory products - include its high thermal stability, high thermal conductivity, high mechanical strength and its resistance to many chemicals and solvents.
"I am delighted that Versarien is working with Insertec with a view to enhancing the performance of their ceramics, used in foundries and other areas when molten metals are handled, through the addition of Versarien's Hexotene," said Versarien Chief Executive Neill Ricketts.
Versarien shares were trading 1.9% higher in London on Wednesday at 98.30 pence each.
