LONDON (Alliance News) - Versarien PLC Wednesday said its subsidiary has launched a range of products using the company's VersarienCu copper foam technology which will allow the company to sell its technology at a much more competitive price.
The engineering materials group said it was developing the VersarienCu copper foam technology in December. The technology is a variety of copper open-celled metallic foams, of varying porosity and pore size, which act as the primary heat exchange element between the heat source within a device and the heat transfer medium, such as the cooling fluid.
The increased thermal efficiency of the copper foam on components can mean that a cooling fan is no longer required in products, and it has the additional benefit of increasing the life of a component by reducing overheating, making it ideal for products that are tight on space.
The company's thermal management subsidiary, Versarien Technologies Ltd, has now applied the technology to a range of heat sinks to be used in passive cooling applications where space is at a premium and performance is crucial, it said.
A heat sink is a passive heat exchanger that cools a device by dissipating heat into the surrounding medium, used in electronic systems and computers.
The heat sinks developed by the subsidiary will be used for television set-top boxes, AP routers, cable modems, broadband modems, optical networks, LED televisions, flat panel displays, power integrated circuits and high temperature components and transistors.
"By producing a standard range of off-the-shelf products Versarien will be able to offer this advanced cooling technology to customers at a more competitive price which, together with the improved thermal management capabilities has already resulted in significant interest from large scale users, who are looking for more reliability and functionality for their electronic components," said the company.
Versarien shares were up 6.3% to 17.40 pence per share on Wednesday morning.
