LONDON (Alliance News) - Value and Income Trust PLC Wednesday said its net asset value under-performed against its benchmark in 2014, but said its performance over the last three years has been "strong".
The trust said its net asset value total return stood at 2.5% in 2014, to 326.9 pence per share, which under-performed against the FTSE All-Share Index total return of 6.6% in the period. However, the trust said its NAV total return over the last three years has risen 38.8% compared to the index rising only 35.4%.
The share price total return fell 1.7% in 2014, but has risen 56.5% over the last three years.
Value and Income raised its total dividend for the "28th consecutive year", increasing it to 9.00 pence per share, up 5.7%.
"The performance of our equity portfolio was behind the Index, but it should be seen in the context of strong performance over the last three years and the general under performance of higher yielding shares in the UK during the last year," it said in a statement.
Value and Income shares closed down 1.9% to 259.00 pence per share on Wednesday.
