(Alliance News) - Valterra Platinum Ltd on Tuesday reported lower production for the first nine months of 2025 as it continued to recover from floods that hit a key mine early this year.
The Rosebank, Johannesburg-based company, formerly called Anglo American Platinum Ltd, was spun off from Anglo American in May this year. It debuted on the London Stock Exchange early in June this year, while it retained its primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
For the nine months that ended September 30, total platinum group metal production in concentrate declined 13% to 2.3 million ounces from 2.7 million ounces a year before. Concentrate PGM output was down 7.3% at 855,100 ounces in the third quarter from 922,200 ounces in the same quarter last year, and dropped 11% from 769,000 ounces in the second quarter to June 30 this year.
Total refined production for nine months was 10% lower at 2.9 million ounces from 3.3 million ounces. Refined production for the third quarter was 1.2 million ounces, down 5% from 1.3 million ounces a year before, but was up 4.3% from 1.1 million ounces in the second quarter.
"It is pleasing to see the continued recovery in our quarterly M&C production volumes following the significant weather-related incidents impacting several of our assets earlier in the year, the most severe of which was the flooding at Amandelbult," Valterra Chief Executive Officer Craig Miller said.
Floods in February this year hit Amandelbult in South Africa, disrupting production that restarted in June.
"Recovery efforts at Amandelbult have progressed well, with Tumela Lower achieving steady-state production volumes ahead of schedule and we maintain our full year guidance for Amandelbult of 450,000-480,000 PGM ounces," Miller said.
Looking ahead, Valterra said it expects refined production of 3.4 million ounces in 2025, compared to a range of between 3.0 million ounces and 3.4 million ounces forecast previously. Output was 3.92 million ounces in 2024.
Shares in Valterra were up 0.9% to ZAR1,002.22 on Tuesday around midday in Johannesburg, and they rose 2.8% to 4,370.00 pence in London in the morning session.
