UTV Media Signs Contract With Broadcasting Authority Of Ireland

LONDON (Alliance News) - Broadcaster UTV Media PLC Thursday said its subsidiary UTV Ireland Ltd had signed a ten year television content provision contract with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, another step in its move to start broadcasting in the Republic of Ireland in January 2015.

UTV has an agreement with ITV studios Global Entertainment for exclusive broadcasting rights for ITV Studios programmes in the Republic of Ireland, including 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale'.

"Our plans for UTV Ireland are now well under way and we look forward to announcing more exciting programming in the coming months," said Managing Director Michael Wilson in a statement. "UTV Ireland will create more than 100 new jobs with its offices based in Dublin backed up by additional newsgathering and reporting presence in Cork, Galway, Waterford and Limerick."

Shares in UTV Media were trading down 0.9% at 246.75 pence Thursday afternoon.
