LONDON (Alliance News) - UTV Media PLC said Wednesday that it had been awarded a broadcast license by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa to launch a 24 hour sports radio station.
The station will be called talkSPORT 540 AM and will broadcast live Barclays Premier League commentary in eight languages to 24 countries.
It will be modelled on the company's existing station talkSPORT, based in London. UTV said it will launch the new station in a consortium with four unnamed joint venture partners who will all hold a 20% interest in the new station.
"We look forward to launching this new talkSPORT station with our partners in South Africia which is renowned for being passionate about sport," Chief Executive John McCann said in a statement Wednesday.
Shares in UTV were trading down 1.1% at 132.00 pence Wednesday afternoon.
