(Alliance News) - Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Monday confirmed it has ordered 102 more A321 aircraft from Airbus SE, to bulk of which will be delivered between 2025 and 2027.
The Budapest-based low-cost airline said the order will include 75 A321neo and 27 A321XLR aircraft. The airline will purchase a further 19 A321neo aircraft under certain conditions.
Airbus also gave Wizz Air purchase rights for a further 75 A321neo to be delivered between 2028 and 2029. Wizz Air plans to convert these rights into an order by the end of 2022.
The current delivery backlog to Wizz Air from Airbus consists of 34 A320neo, 254 A321neo and 47 A321XLR aircraft without the optional 19 A321neo and purchase rights for 75 A321neo.
"As with previous orders, under the agreement, Wizz Air has the right to substitute a number of the Airbus A321neo aircraft with the Airbus A320neo and/or A321XLR aircraft and vice versa, depending on its future requirements," the Wizz Air noted.
The company said that completion of the order is subject to shareholder approval.
"Despite strong demand for the aircraft, we have signed very attractive terms with Airbus for the long-term supply of more aircraft until the end of the decade, catapulting Wizz Air towards our aim of being a 500 aircraft group and putting us in an unassailable position when it comes to sustainability," Chief Executive Jozsef Varadi said.
Wizz Air's order was part of a major sale for aerospace firm Airbus.
On Sunday, the Toulouse, France-based plane manufacturer said that it had received an order for 255 medium-haul jets.
The order for the A321neo series aircraft came from US private equity firm Indigo Partners LLC on behalf of four low-cost airlines, including Wizz Air. The other three airlines receiving planes are US operator Frontier Group Holdings Inc, Mexico's Volaris and the Chilean-Argentinian firm Jetsmart.
The parties signed the deal on Sunday at the Dubai Airshow, according to Airbus.
Neither Airbus, nor Wizz Air disclosed the value of the order. According to a price list published by the company in 2018, Airbus' order with Indigo Partners would be worth around USD33 billion.
