UPDATE: Trinity Mirror Pays Out GBP125,000 To Six In Phone Hacking Settlements

26th Sep 2014 14:43

LONDON (Alliance News) - Trinity Mirror PLC said Friday that subsidiary Mirror Group Newspaper has agreed to pay out GBP125,000 to settle six phone-hacking claims against individuals.

Amongst the individual claims, former England football club manager Sven Goran Eriksson and actor Christopher Eccleston both settled their claims for GBP30,000 each.

The details of the settlement were outlined in a document submitted by the publisher at a high court hearing. The company faces nearly 50 compensation cases; 28 claims have already been registered with the court, with another "10 to 20" actions about to be issued.

Four of eight lead cases that were due to go to trial in February remained outstanding, including a case involving actor Shane Richie.

"We have set aside a figure in the high single digit millions to cover costs in relation to civil claims. This cover all the cases, including claims that have been made, that we are aware of," Trinity Mirror said in a statement.

Shares in Trinity Mirror were trading down 0.1% at 174.00 pence Friday afternoon.
