UPDATE: SSE Appoints BP Chief Scientist As Non-Executive Director

27th Mar 2020 11:12

(Alliance News) - SSE PLC said Friday it has appointed Angela Strank as a non-executive director with effect on May 1.

Strank is head of Downstream Technology and chief scientist at UK oil major BP PLC but is expected to retire from BP at the end of 2020. Strank has been in this role for two years.

"I am very pleased Angela is joining SSE's board. She has exceptional operational experience in the energy sector and a demonstrable commitment helping address key issues facing the sector and society more generally. She will bring complementary experience and skills to SSE's board," said SSE Chair Richard Gillingwater.

Earlier Friday, SSE said it still plans a dividend of 80 pence per share for its financial year ending March 31, with the growing spread of Covid-19 having no material impact on the group's performance for the period.

However, before the impact of Covid-19, the FTSE 100 energy company expects adjusted earnings per share to be at the lower end of its expected 83 pence to 88p range, but still representing a rise from 67.1p the year before.

In addition, SSE said it will delay the publication of annual results in response to the Financial Conduct Authority's moratorium. As a result, the group is expected to publish results in the second half of June.

Shares in SSE were down 7.2% at 1,293.00 pence on Friday in London.
