LONDON (Alliance News) - International Consolidated Airlines Group on Wednesday reported a rise in group traffic and load factor in January.
The airline said group traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres, grew 12% year-on-year to 17.3 million from 15.5 million, while load factor increased by 1.7 percentage points to 78.7% from 77.0%.
By individual airline, British Airways saw traffic grow 1.7% to 11.1 million RPKs from 10.9 million. Irish carrier Aer Lingus,, which IAG bought at the end of last year, achieved traffic of 951,000 in January. Traffic at Spanish carrier Iberia was up 13% to 3.9 million RPKs from 3.4 million, while at budget Spanish airline Vueling, it was up 21% to 1.4 million from 1.1 million.
IAG also announced that British Airways will resume direct flights to Tehran in Iran on July 14. The route will start as a six-per-week service before moving to daily flights from the winter.
Shares in IAG were trading down 3.4% at 521.50 pence on Wednesday afternoon.
