UPDATE: Belgian Ryanair Pilots Vote For Collective Labour Agreement

20th Feb 2019 15:15

LONDON (Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Wednesday confirmed that 98% of its directly employed pilots based in Belgium have voted in favour of a four-year collective labour agreement governing their pay and conditions.

The agreement was negotiated between the budged airline and unions BeCa, CNE-CSC, and LBC-NVK.

Earlier in the day, Ryanair confirmed 98% of its directly employed pilots based in Belgium had voted in favour of a recognition agreement with BeCa, to cover all of Ryanair's directly employed pilots in Belgium.

The airline and BeCA were said to be progressing a collective labour agreement which they both hoped to conclude before the end of April.

Ryanair has been talking with unions across Europe in regards to collective labour agreements. In January, the company said it is working on a recognition agreement with the SITCPLA and USO unions in Spain. In November, it recognised Portuguese union SNPVAC, and the same month signed a labour agreement covering all German cabin crews.

It has also signed similar agreements with Italian crews, and has been in talks with Greek and Swedish staff.

In addition, on Wednesday Ryanair also said it will open a new base at Toulouse, France in October with two aircraft and 11 new routes.

The Irish airline said the new routes includes flights to Alicante and Valencia in Spain, Porto in Portugal, Luxembourg, Budapest in Hungary, Palermo in Italy, Tangier and Oujda in Morocco, and Brest, Lille and Marseille in France.

"We are delighted to announce a USD200 million aircraft investment at Ryanair's third French base in Toulouse airport, which will deliver 1 million customers per annum, create 60 Ryanair pilot and cabin crew jobs and support 750 airport jobs," said Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer David O'Brien.

Ryanair shares were trading 0.4% higher on Wednesday at EUR11.95 each.
