BERLIN (Alliance News) - A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of hacking into online customer data of British telecoms firm TalkTalk has been released on bail, police in Northern Ireland said Monday.
Officers arrested the boy on Monday after carrying out a search in his home in north-eastern County Antrim, London's Metropolitan Police, who are carrying out an ongoing investigation into the matter, said in a statement.
The boy has been released on bail, according to an official tweet from the Police Service of Northern Island.
TalkTalk fell victim on Wednesday to what it called "a significant and sustained cyberattack" during which individual customer data had been compromised.
The phone and broadband provider, which has over 4 million customers in Britain, later said that no sensitive information, such as credit and debit card numbers, had been obtained.
Sort codes and bank account numbers may have been accessed, the company said online, while reminding customers that this information was available on a standard cheque.
