United Cacao Disputes Environmental Investigation Agency Claims

5th May 2016 11:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - United Cacao Ltd SEZC on Thursday noted claims made by a special interest group regarding its cacao plantation operations in Peru.

On Wednesday, the Environmental Investigation Agency and more than 60 indigenous and non-governmental organisations called for United Cacao to be removed from London's AIM market. They claim the company breached rules and has engaged in clear-cutting of Peruvian rainforests.

United Cacao said it operates "in full compliance with all applicable Peruvian and environmental laws relating to planning, land use, development, operation and plantation standards."

The group also noted the Federal Supreme Court of Peru in January reaffirmed a previous ruling made in March 2015 which confirmed its environmental permitting and agricultural zoning.

Shares in United Cacao were down 9.2% to 109.00 pence.
