Unite Group Notes High Student Demand For Returning To University

17th Feb 2021 09:27

(Alliance News) - Unite Group PLC on Wednesday said a survey showed four in five university students in the UK would like a return to face-to-face tuition after the Easter break, if lockdown restrictions are eased.

The purpose-built student accommodation provider said it commissioned Yonder Data Solutions to carry out a survey of 2,000 students for the company about their university life.

Bristol-based Unite Group highlighted that demand for returning to university remains overwhelmingly high, with 86% of students keen to get onto university campus once it is safe to do so. In addition, the company said almost two in three students are likely to return to their student accommodation for their third term if lockdown restrictions are eased.

Unit Group also said 75% of students who took part in the survey agreed that living in university accommodation and being on campus is as important a part of the university experience as lectures and tutorials, and 77% say they like the greater independence that come from living away from home - confirming the importance of the whole university experience for students.

"The demand for returning to campus and university life remains overwhelmingly high and, as we begin the slow march back to a more normal way of life, we look forward to continuing to support students during their time at university," said Richard Smith, chief executive of Unite Group.

Earlier this month, Unite Students said it was extending its 50% rent discount for students to March 8, taking the discount period announced in January to seven weeks. It said the total cost to Unite of the seven-week discount is GBP15 million.

Unite Group shares were trading 0.8% lower in London on Wednesday at 968.52 pence each.
