Ultrasis Sees Positive Project Results, Secures Funding For Second Trial

18th Mar 2014 13:06

LONDON (Alliance News) - Ultrasis PLC Tuesday saw positive results from a pilot project conducted by researches at the US Veterans Administration, and as a result the researchers had been awarded funding to conduct a further trial.

The study investigated the feasibility of a Veteran assisted computer based cognitive behavioural therapy programme, which it calls 'Beating the Blues.' The study showed that completion rates for the therapy program were high, and showed significant decreases in depressive symptoms, and increases in hope were observed.

Marginal decreases in anxiety symptoms were also observed.

The new study will be a clinical trial of a peer-supported version of its 'Beating the Blues' treatment compared to enhanced usual care. It will begin in August, and will assess 330 patients in care at three VA sites.

"The results from this pilot demonstrate the potential for Beating the Blues to be delivered through a Peer Supported Model," said Chief Executive John Smith in a statement. "This has two significant benefits in that it enables increased access to affordable care and it potentially provides employment opportunities for Veterans."

Shares in the healthcare products and services company were trading up 1.9% at 1.07 pence Tuesday afternoon.
