Ultra Electronics Wins Contract With New Zealand Ministry Of Defence

21st Jul 2014 07:01

LONDON (Alliance News) - Ultra Electronics Holdings PLC said Monday it has won a GBP9.9 million contract with the Ministry of Defence in New Zealand to provide its Sea Sentor surface ship torpedo defence system.

The Ministry of Defence will use the systems for its Anzac Frigate Systems upgrade programme, intended to update the surveillance, combat and self-defence capabilities of its fleet of Anzac class warships. Ultra Electronics will provide two systems.

The systems are used to detect, classify and locate incoming torpedoes from a hostile submarine. It contains a flexible towed-body countermeasure to decoy and jam all torpedo types.

"I am pleased Ultra has been awarded this contract to work in partnership with the New Zealand Ministry of Defence, showing continued growth in the maritime sector. Ultra continues to expand its Sonar capabilities to meet its customer needs and this has been recognised by the contract award," said Chief Executive Rakesh Sharma in a statement.
