LONDON (Alliance News) - The UK Competition and Markets Authority said Wednesday that it will refer Pearson PLC's acquisition of Learndirect Ltd's computer-based testing business to an in-depth phase 2 investigation.
The CMA said that it had decided not to accept undertakings in lieu of reference to a phase 2 investigation offered by Pearson.
Pearson's VUE arm agreed to buy the Learndirect business in September; no financial details were disclosed. By acquiring the business Pearson will retain ownership of the contract for the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency testing mandate, which was due to transfer to Learndirect in September next year.
Shares in Pearson were up 4.3% at 737.50 pence Wednesday midday.
