UK PRESS: G4S Accused Of Abuse At South African Prison - BBC

29th Oct 2013 06:57

LONDON (Alliance News) - G4S have been accused of "shocking" abuses and of losing control at one of South Africa's most dangerous prisons, according to the BBC on Tuesday.

Inmates at the Manguang correctional facility, managed by G4S, claimed they had been subjected to electric shock treatment and forced injections.

In response, the South African government has temporarily taken over control of the prison, which is situated just outside Bloemfontain, from G4S and launched an official investigation into the allegations.

G4S said it is also investigating the allegations.

On October 24, the company replaced its Chief Executive in an attempt to repair its relationship with the UK government following allegations that it overcharged on contracts for the electronic tagging of prisoners.
