LONDON (Alliance News) - Centrica PLC's British Gas unit is planning to hit its 12 million household customers with an energy price rise of as much as 8% in coming weeks, adding close to GBP100 to a typical British Gas dual fuel bill of GBP1,232 a year, the Daily Telegraph reports Saturday.
The company is likely to announce the move before its interim management statement on November 14 but wants to wait until party conference season is over, in early October, in an attempt to lessen the political backlash, the paper says without saying where it got the information.
Centrica raised household prices by 6% last winter, contributing to a 3.2% rise in first half profits this year.
