(Alliance News) - UK Oil & Gas PLC said Wednesday that operations to shut off formation water ingress into its Horse Hill-2z horizontal production well in the Weald Basin of Surrey, southern England, have commenced.
UK Oil & Gas owns an 86% interest in the Horse Hill PEDL 137 and PEDL 246 licenses, located in Surrey, England. Alba Mineral Resources PLC owns 12% interest in the licences.
The oil & gas firm said "by means of a Halliburton coiled tubing unit, production logging tools will be run along the entire length of the 2,500 feet horizontal section to identify the source of water ingress, thought to be from a series of open natural fractures at the base or "toe" of the wellbore."
Once identified, the source of water ingress will be isolated, either via a rigid setting fluid plug, or by conventional cementing and selective perforation programme, the company said.
Resumption of HH-2z extended well test operations is planned to follow directly after a successful intervention, UK Oil & Gas said.
Meanwhile Portland oil pool test production from HH-1 well will continue during the intervention, the company said.
Stephen Sanderson, chief executive officer, said: "We look forward to a successful intervention programme and the near-term resumption of test oil production from the new HH-2z horizontal well."
In another statement, Alba Mineral Resources PLC said it has received update from UK Oil & Gas about the commencement of operations to shut off formation water ingress into the Horse Hill-2z well.
UK Oil & Gas shares were trading 1.2% lower in London at 0.62 pence each on Wednesday, meanwhile Alba Minerals shares were mainly flat at 0.12 pence.
