Tullow Oil Gets Mixed Results From Kenyan Drilling Programme

22nd Jan 2015 07:43

LONDON (Alliance News) - Tullow Oil PLC on Thursday announced a set of mixed results for its Kenyan prospects, with one well plugged and abandoned but seismic surveys showing improved prospects elsewhere.

The company said the Epir-1 exploration well, located at Block 10BB in the North Kerio Basin, did not show an oil discovery, but had oil and wet gas shows over a 100 metre interval of non-reservoir quality rocks. The FTSE 100-listed oil and gas company said the results showed a working petroleum system in the basin and said further exploration activities will be considered for the North Kerio basin, but said the well itself would be plugged and abandoned, with the drilling rig to move to the Ekales-2 location in the South Lokichar basin.

Tullow said drilling has started at the Engomo-1 exploration well, with results from the well expected in early March.

The Ngamia-5 and Ngamia6 appraisal wells have both been completed and have been suspended, but will remain available for use in an extended well test the company intends to start in the second quarter of 2015. The Amosing-3 well, also located in Block 10BB successfully encountered oil, but has also been suspended for use in future development and appraisal activities.

Elsewhere, Tullow has completed the survey on oil discoveries in the western South Lokichar basin. Fast-track data is already in use in the south of the basin, and the rest of the survey will be available for seismic interpretation by the end of the first quarter, the company said.

Tullow said initial evaluation of the 3D seismic data available has show significantly improved structural data and additional prospectivity which had not been available in the 2D seismic data. An extensive programme of analysis on samples from South Lokichar is now taking place, with the results to be provided from the first quarter of this year onwards, Tullow added.
