LONDON (Alliance News) - Trinity Mirror PLC said Wednesday that its application to strike off two of four claims of alleged phone hacking leveled against its subsidiary MGN Limited had failed.
A linked application, challenging the basis on which the other two claims were made, was also unsuccessful. The company said in a statement that it would continue to "contest the four claims vigorously".
On September 12, Trinity Mirror revealed that its newspaper The Sunday Mirror, published by MGN, was under investigation by the London Metropolitan police over phone hacking allegations.
This investigation followed the News of the World phone-hacking scandal in 2011, which resulted in the arrest of reporters and News International executives and, ultimately, the closure of the paper.
The trial of former editors of News of the World, Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, began last week.
Shares in Trinity Mirror were trading down 2.7% at 128.50 pence Wednesday morning.
