LONDON (Alliance News) - United Utilities Group PLC said Monday it has appointed former Network Rail Ltd chief executive David Higgins as chair designate, replacing John McAdam when he steps down at the end of the year.

At present, Higgins is chair of Gatwick Airport Ltd and a non-executive director at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He will leave the bank's board in December this year. In addition to Network Rail, Higgins is also ex-CEO of the Olympic Delivery Authority.

Higgins joins water company United Utilities as a non-executive director with immediate effect and will assume the role of chair once McAdam departs on December 31.
