TOP NEWS: Standard Chartered Hires Ex-Commonwealth Bank Exec As COO

6th Sep 2018 10:57

LONDON (Alliance News) - FTSE 100-listed Standard Chartered PLC on Thursday named former Commonwealth Bank of Australia executive David Whiteing as its new chief operating officer, starting next Monday.

The newly expanded role will now include IT Operations, bringing together the COO's team with the bank's global and country operations teams - which were formerly within IT operations.

Whiteing was previously a group executive and chief information officer for enterprise services at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Current COO Doris Honold will work to effect the separation of Operations from Technology. The bank said she will remain as part of the management team and her next role will be announced in due course.

The bank - which is also listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange and Bombay stock exchange - said Chief Information Officer Michael Gorriz will continue to lead the digital transformation and innovation programmes, "working closely" with Whiteing on the transfer of operations to the new Operations function.

Chief Executive Officer Bill Winters said: "These changes reflect two vital objectives – ensuring operational excellence in service to our clients and accelerating our digital transformation. Bringing David on board with a mandate to improve efficiency and deliver better experiences for our clients also gives Michael’s team more space to relentlessly pursue our tech and innovation agenda.

"In her role as the COO of the bank, Doris has been instrumental in driving change and transformation within the COO function and driving efficiencies across the bank. Her experience, knowledge and expertise will be essential during this next phase and as we transition to these two newly formed functions."

Shares in Standard Chartered were down 0.6% Thursday at 627.20 pence each.
